Rehousing a Risc PC

This page gives a little information about my exploits into rehousing my Risc PC into a PC Case. The primary reason for doing this was the suspicion that in the old case, my hard drives were overheating.

Having lost one drive completely and had its replacement full of errors such that saving large files was impossible, I took advice as to what might be causing the problems. The two drives were from different manufacturers and different sizes but both had been housed in the second slice above the floppy drive in the first slice. One person told me that putting the hard drive in a bay designed for the floppy drive was a very bad idea because there was no air space around the drive to help with cooling and the drives were probably over heating. It was also suggested that I rehouse the Risc PC into a PC case. Preview of slides

The New case, complete with Extra Hard drive LED (above Floppy Drive) and custom stickers "Running RISC OS 4" and "Arm Powered".

View of rear of case, complete with large cut-out
Hardboard Podule frame clearly visible through the large hole in the rear panel. Also see the Parallel and Serial Port adapters made from Male/Female pairs of IDC connectors and ribbon cable.

Side view of the case - with lid removed
Still very much unfinished, but very functional interior. Podules currently held by hardboard frame measured and cut to size. Just visible in the picture are Simtec USB and IDE Podules, 2 Hard Drives, 1 CDRW Drive, 1 CD Drive.
